This is Why
In yesterday's post I shared the story of my first blog, iamstilltheprincess. Soon after I began it someone asked me, "What made you decide to be a blogger?"
I didn't know. I was bored? I liked to write and finishing a whole novel is a lot more work than I could handle on two hours of sleep? Now I know that God had a why, even if I didn't.
This time I've put a little more thought into my why.
I think it boils down to these things-
1. It's for me. It's both therapeutic and important to pause and analyze. To recognize what God's doing in our lives and decide how we're going to respond. So, even if I have 0 readers, taking a few moments a week to stop and reflect is completely worth it.
2. To leave bread crumbs. I don't know what's ahead exactly. I am definitely not an expert on being a mommy in ministry. But someday I'll have left landmarks for some other woman who is a week from starting ordination classes, wondering how on earth she'll disciple her own kids, not to mention OTHER people's kids at the same time, and how she'll get papers written between little league games. She'll wonder how to handle the enormity of having every single area of her life overlap. And I hope that she'll feel less scared and know that she's not alone.
On second thought, though, maybe the bread crumbs were a bad analogy. Because at the end of that story Hansel and Gretel find a gingerbread house where a witch tries to shove them into an oven and eat them. I really do hope this story goes much better than that!
3. Information sharing. I'm an information hoarder. Gallup Strengths finder calls those of us who enjoy collecting and sharing information "Inputs". If you found this blog through a google search it's likely you're an input too. And that you either want or have advice on those everyday life skills kidmin workers need most such as calculating how many hot dogs fit in a Costco cart, the best way to squeeze a plastic pool into a fuel efficient vehicle, and how to get slime out of hair. If that's you...let's chat.
4. Accountability. I want to write about the things that matter most to me. Putting those beliefs down in words for all to read helps me match my actions to my values. It's harder to skip bedtime prayers when I've just encouraged you to remember them. It's easier to keep the appointments I make with my kids and husband if I've just quite publicly announced that I will. It shouldn't be that way. But it is.
5. To remember. I know someday I can look back on the record of this crazy life and see answers to prayer and give praise to God for carrying us through. That it will be like the memorial stones Joshua had pulled from the Jordan river. A testimony of God's faithfulness.
